There are thousands of people out there who play poker for a living, meaning their day-to-day job is playing poker professionally. TO most poker players this sounds like an appealing way to earn your bread and butter but before you quit your day job to play poker professionally there are a few things to consider.

First of all you must be good enough. This sounds obvious but there are many players who ‘turn professional’ because they think they are better than they are. You may have won a few tournaments but can you play patiently for 8-12 hours a day online or at live tables? Can you handle months where you lose thousands of dollars? These are just two things that you must be able to be able to do. If you play poker full-time there will be months where you will win a lot more than you would normally at your day job but I guarantee that there will also be months where you will lose even more. You will then have to bounce back from these losses without tilting and risking losing more.

Before you start you must practice, practice then practice some more. And then go and play a game with your friends. And then at the casino. Play against as many different players as you can. Playing 1000 hands with the same 6 people is worth nowhere near the knowledge you will gain from playing 500 hands against 50 people. Everyone plays differently and gives different tells. The more people you play against, the better you become at reading players and making moves off those reads.
