All-in Situations in Poker

In this article we will discuss a Texas Holdem action, which can confuse players because they do not know how to take advantage of it.

Moving all-in is a special move in No-Limit Holdem, which permits the players to get back into the game by doubling up if they win the hand. For example if you have not enough chips it is very unfavorable for you to fold. But you can choose the option all in, which can turn the game in your favor.

This move is a preferred action by aggressive players because it maximizes what is called fold equity. Aggressive players realize that players will need a premium hand to call an all-in shove, why is why they will do it.

When considering the all-in move in poker, timing is crucial and it is essential for you to choose the most accurate moment in order to take maximum advantage of the situation.

Of course, if the player who goes all in is not the winner in the Showdown, the money from both the main and the side pot go to the player with the best five card hand.

But the situation is different if the winner is the player, who was all-in. Then the all-in player receives the main pot but the money from the side pot goes to the player who has the second best five card combination.

Sometimes, more than one player can go all in. In this case the dealer divides the pot into multiple parts. In the showdown it is time to determine the winner. If it happens that the player with the best five card combination is not an all-in player he or she wins all the pots, both the main and side pot.

Going all-in can be dangerous for the beginner players, because they do not have the experience needed to take advantage of this move.

Some of the most common reasons, which make the Texas Holdem players to go all in are the following:

If they need to double the bet but it they can not afford to raise the bet and then to quit the game.

Another reason may be the mental condition of the players. It they are on tilt they can go all in just like that. Besides, it is a good idea to go all-in if you think that someone is trying to bluff you.

If you want to go all in you should consider the situation properly. It is a well-known fact that this move can save you, but it can also fail you. It is not recommended to go all-in in the early stages of No Limit Texas Holdem tournaments because by this way you will put your tournament life on the line, which isn’t necessary when you are still in the early stages of the tournament. In cash games this is not much of an issue because you can always reload, and it is actually recommended to shove all-in vs tight players to maximize fold equity to get folds.

If you do wish to go all-in, of great importance is to have a solid hand for example AA, AK, KK, for instance.
